Care

How to keep a silk scarf for ten years.

Washing

Dry-clean is safest. If you must hand-wash, use cold water and a wool / silk detergent (Eucalan or similar). Don't scrub. Press water out gently, never wring.

Drying

Lay flat on a towel in the shade. Direct sunlight fades reactive dyes faster than anything else. Never tumble dry.

Ironing

Low heat, on the reverse, with a thin cotton barrier. Steam at a distance to release wrinkles in five seconds.

Storage

Folded loosely in tissue, in a drawer with a sachet of cedar. Don't hang silk on a metal hanger — over months it warps the fabric where it sits.

Pashmina specifically

Air after wear, fold (do not hang), and store with cedar to keep moths off. Dry-clean only.
